Before Kickoff: The Experience Has Already Started

Experience is in our name, so it's probably no surprise that we spend a lot of time thinking about how people experience events, especially right now, as Kansas City gears up for one of the biggest sporting moments in the world.

Not just the big moments. The little ones, too.

The walk to the venue. The fan zone packed with people. The projection lighting up a building downtown. The crowd noise you can hear from blocks away that makes you pick up your pace because you know something exciting is happening nearby.

Before kickoff, before the introductions, before anyone takes their seat, the experience has already started. And in our opinion, some of the most memorable moments happen before the main event ever begins.

It's Not Just About the Venue

Don't get us wrong…the venue matters. But think about the last big sporting event you attended. You probably remember the game itself, but chances are you also remember everything surrounding it.

Maybe it was the sea of jerseys filling the streets. Maybe it was a packed fan zone buzzing with energy. Maybe it was a sponsor activation that somehow convinced you to stand in line for a photo or a giant projection on a building that made everyone stop and look up.

Those moments may seem small, but they're often what make an event feel bigger than the game itself. They're the moments that make a city feel alive.

The Best Events Build Anticipation

There's a reason movie trailers exist. There's a reason concerts dim the lights before the headliner walks on stage. Anticipation is part of the experience.

The same is true for sporting events. Every activation, fan zone, photo opportunity, and gathering space contributes to the energy people feel before they ever reach the venue. Even something as simple as hearing crowd noise from a few blocks away can change your mindset. You know something is happening. You know you're getting closer. You might even start walking a little faster. (Or maybe that's just us.)

The best events understand that excitement doesn't begin at kickoff. It builds gradually through dozens of moments that work together to create anticipation.

The Little Things Add Up

Most attendees will never think about why an event felt exciting. They won't notice why an activation was placed in a certain location or how the attendee journey was intentionally designed to build energy from one space to the next.

And honestly, that's okay.

Great production isn't about making people notice the work behind the scenes. It's about creating an experience that feels effortless. It's about turning a crowd into an atmosphere, transforming public spaces into gathering places, and creating moments that make people feel connected to something bigger than themselves.

When it's done well, people don't remember the logistics. They remember how it felt.

Why We're Thinking About It

Kansas City has had a front-row seat to some incredible sporting moments over the past few years. We've seen firsthand how fan zones, activations, hospitality spaces, and community celebrations can transform an event from something people attend into something people truly experience.

As our city prepares for even more exciting moments ahead, we're reminded that the best experiences don't start at the venue entrance. They start in the walk there. In the anticipation. In the gathering spaces. In the moments that make people stop, look around, and think, "Okay, this is going to be fun."

At Platinum XP, we've been fortunate to help create some of those moments over the years, and we're excited to continue doing it. Because while everyone remembers the final score, it's often the feeling leading up to it that sticks with you the longest.
